Puppies! (and a cat!)
On Wednesday we picked up two puppies (great pyrenees) and a cat from our friend’s farm!
Elsie, a rather high-spirited and bouncy puppy, who keeps her brother on his toes. She is very adventurous, and likes to explore new places.
Caspian, a quiet, cuddly puppy, who loves to play and sleep.
Lily, a cuddly and black cat, who enjoys being carried and held. She has adjusted very well to her new home.
We had a six-hour car ride back to our house and all of the animals did great!
One of the first things we did Saturday morning was to give the puppies baths. They behaved very well, and enjoyed the warm towels and a good nap afterwards.

Joshua’s 3rd Birthday
Josh won the prize for the first birthday in the new house! I can’t believe that this little guy is now already 3 years old! :)
We made him a yellow cake with chocolate icing and M & M’s on top (our classic 3 and 4 year old birthday cake). He received a suit of armor from Mama and Dad, a fleece blanket from all the sissies, a lollipop from Maddie, a peanut butter cup from Catherine, a new knight from Caroline, an air force helmet from Michael, and a bag of little soldiers from Luke. He had a wonderful day, and enjoyed all the attention he was getting (who wouldn’t
)
Here are some pictures from his special day:

Moving Day!!! (this time it really is us!)
Last fall, I posted about our grandparents moving day. Now we’re moving instead!
In the months before the move, we had gradually been packing up our stuff, but starting in early September, the packing began in earnest. The week before moving day, the house began to look really bare. (p.s. if you run your mouse over the picture, a little description of it will pop up
)
Friends started arriving to help around 9 am on Saturday, and while the men and boys loaded, us girls cleaned upstairs. Molly and Marina did a wonderful job cleaning our bathrooms! Dr. S, Olivia, Juliette, Eliza and Catherine took down all the beds.
The first truck was loaded in about forty-five minutes, and Dad decided, that rather than take out that truck, unload, and come back, to just get a second truck. More friends had arrived by that point, so we had fresh hands who were ready to work.
While the second truck was being loaded, Mom, me, and some of the ladies prepared lunch and fed the kiddos. Then, while we stuffed all we could into everyone’s cars/pick up trucks, the guys ate. Then we all caravanned out to the new house. The caravan included two 26′ moving vans, three pick-up trucks, two minivans, and one car.
We arrived ’round 2:30pm, and started unloading. Each room at the new house was labeled a different color, and each box had already been labeled with a corresponding color. So while the guys brought boxes in, us girls took the boxes to the rooms where they belonged.
There was a whole lot of heavy furniture to bring in, and guys did a wonderful job! The armoire was the biggest task, and it took eight men (some carrying, some directing) to get up the stairs, down the hallways and around the turns to Mom and Dad’s bedroom on the top floor; but they did it! The piano was very heavy (possibly heavier than the armoire), but one fella was heard to have said, “That was fun. Do you have any other pianos? I want to lift a heavier one.”
Fun stuff

This was when the guys were trying to get the armoire into the stairwell.
The bed-taking-down team came back together again to become the bed-putting-up team. Aunt Carol, Julia and Chris, and another family came out to help and that swelled our ranks to it’s highest point. There were a total of 42 people working on the house at the end of the day.
We cooked out ham/cheeseburgers for supper, and enjoyed fellowship until around 8 o’clock. Then everyone headed home, and all of us hit the sack around 9:30pm, and slept in till 8:30am or so.
Sounds like a pretty great day, huh? Well, we had a lot of fun, the food was great, the people all had fantastic attitudes, but there was just one little problem….it rained, actually make that poured, all day long! Everyone outside was soaked to the skin, but still, it was terrific! Great fun!
A big thank you to EVERYONE who helped making our moving day so fun! Thanks also to all of y’all who have prayed for us during this whole selling-the-house-and-buying-a-new-one process!!! Y’all are treasures!
Here are some pictures of our terrific day! (I like that word, “terrific”. I should use it more often
)
Oh, and here are some pictures of our bedrooms, and what they looked like in the two or three days following the move:

Behind-the-Scenes with the Moving Crew
Here at our house, the moving crew has been busily getting ready for our move on September 26. Across the house, different packing stations are set up, all franchises of the largest packing station (which is in the basement). This chain of businesses is run by Miss Catherine. Here is a video tour of the Basement Station:
Also, many other hands have been working hard to pack. If you are packing a book box, the seven steps of a perfect box are:
1. Pack the box as full and tight as you can with books.
2. Unpack the box, and stack the books.
3. On an index card (or two) write the titles of each book down.
4. Write the box number at the top of the card.
5. Repack the box, using only the books you cataloged
6. Write box number on top and side of box
7. Turn it into the nearest packing franchise to be sealed and marked with colored duck tape. Be sure to give Catherine the catalog card, so she can store it in the card box.
We catalog each book so that we know which box it’s in. That way, we don’t have unpack every box once we get to the new place. If Mom needs a certain book for school, all we have to do is look up what box it’s in, and find the box, get the book, and seal it up again. We’re actually cataloging every box we pack, not just book boxes, but those are the most time consuming.
No school till the first week of October for us! We did three weeks back in August, but with moving, it’s almost impossible.
UPDATE (September 23): All of the book boxes have been packed, and now everything is being boxed up. Only the “bare necessities” are left out, plus picture frames and a few things that we’re driving directly out to the house in our car.
